The monument is dedicated to Napoleon's Illyria. It is placed in the Square of the French Revolution in the central axes of Vegova Street. It is made out of Brač marble cubes (1 x 1 x 1 m) and was initially surrounded by eight cypresses.
There is the Illyrian sign at the top of the pillar – a crescent with six-sided stars; verses of the Slovene poets Valenin Vodnik and Oton Župančič, dedicated to an unknown French soldier, are written on the sides of the monument.
