In the beginning the building was just a temporal extension to the cemetery church of St Christopher and was relocated to Kuzmič Street as an independent church because of the construction work on Gospodarsko razstavišče. The extension was built in 1933-1934, in 1935 Plečnik designed the church organ, in 1944 the pulpit and the altar of Mother of God were build, in 1945 the altar of St Joseph and in 1948 the Mary pillar. The church of St Christopher was leveled in 1957-1958, and during that same year, the extension was relocated to the existing location by Plečnik's assistant Anton Bitenc who also added the church tower and the hall.
